SUMMARY
Under general supervision, the HVAC Technician performs skilled, journey-level duties in the inspection, servicing, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and system controls. Provides technical assistance to other maintenance personnel and responds to emergency plumbing situations as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
To maintain heating/ventilation/air conditioning and systems controls; identify repair/replacement needs necessary to maintain equipment and systems; provide appropriate documentation required by other personnel, and conform to regulations; provide necessary information on the proper uses of the equipment; provide orientation to personnel in the operation of heating, air conditioning/refrigeration equipment; and ensure adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Installs, diagnoses/maintains/repairs heating/ventilation/air conditioning/systems controls
- Operates hand and power tools used in heating/air conditioning and systems in a safe and efficient manner
- Works from blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, manuals, and diagrams
- Orients school personnel to provide necessary information on the proper use of the equipment
- Knows mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic applications to HVAC field, codes, andregulations relative to HVAC field, boiler operation, water treatment, and basic computer operation
- General knowledge of building codes pertaining to HVAC Systems
- Procures equipment, supplies, and materials in a timely manner
- Responds to emergency situations
- Disposes of waste materials properly
- Transports various items to provide materials at the job site as required to complete tasks
- Works cooperatively and efficiently with other
- Ensure assigned projects are completed in full and meet district standards, including actively assisting and coordinating with other trades as necessary until all related work is fully completed.
- Records and documents information to provide written support and/or convey information
- Support Maintenance Worker Ill duties and tasks as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
- Principles, methods, tools, equipment, and materials used in journey-level plumbing work.
- Applicable plumbing, mechanical, gas, and safety codes and regulations.
- Preventive maintenance principles and practices.
- Hazmat procedures and safety precautions.
- Work hazards and common job safety practices.
Ability to:
- Perform skilled HVAC and system controls; work independently with minimal supervision.
- Read and work from blueprints, sketches, and diagrams.
- Diagnose HVAC problems and determine appropriate corrective action.
- Operate a variety of hand and power tools and specialized HVAC equipment.
- Maintain accurate records related to assigned activities.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Understand and follow oral and written directions.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
- Observe safety precautions and procedures.
- Maintain consistent, punctual, and regular attendance.
- Drive a motor vehicle safely to various sites to perform assigned duties.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent supplemented by additional training in at least one journey level area.
Experience:
- Three years of job-related experience as a journeyman-level air conditioning and heating technician, which included responsibility for a programmable energy management system with direct digital control and communication line for HVAC
Licenses/Certificates:
- Class C Driver's License is required
- EPA Universal Technician Certificate (Section 608)
WORKING CONDITIONS WHICH MAY OCCUR
- Work indoors and outdoors, often with limited protection from the weather
- Noise exposure under 90 decibels
- Work on surfaces that are flat and stable
- Contact with blood-borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials once or
twice a week - Subject to exposure to infectious diseases
- Drive to various District sites
