Under the direction of the Chief Operations Officer or designee, responsible for planning, administering, supervising and implementing comprehensive district procedures in the area of transportation and providing expert analysis and support to District Leadership on all transportation related matters.
Management Team Relationships: 1. Directly responsible to the Chief Operations Officer. 2. Directly responsible for assigned Coordinators, Managers, and Supervisors.
Administrative Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Administer all Transportation Department services and activities, e.g., student transportation, transportation maintenance and repair, emergency and accident response; 2. Manage the development and implementation of Transportation Department goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for each assigned service area; 3. Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identify opportunities for improvement; direct the implementation of changes; recommend and administer policies and procedures; 4. Review legislation affecting transportation operations and implement changes, as needed; 5. Represent the Transportation Department to other District departments, elected officials and outside agencies; 6. Supervise, provide clear work direction and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; provide clear constructive feedback to improve staff effectiveness; interview and select highly qualified employees; recommend performance improvement plans, transfers, reassignment, termination and disciplinary actions; coordinate and administer appropriate training of staff; 7. Develop and prepare the annual budget for the Transportation Department; analyze and review budgetary and financial data to ensure data accuracy; monitor and authorize expenditures in accordance with established guidelines to ensure the financial stability of the District: 8. Coordinate Transportation Department activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and organizations; 9. Provide staff assistance to the Chief Operations Officer related to Transportation Department activities; prepare and present staff reports and other necessary correspondence; 10. Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive parent and citizen inquiries and complaints; confer with school administration and parents on disciplinary problems of student passengers; 11. Direct the scheduling and assignment of driver personnel for all school bus operations within the District; 12. Direct the bus driver training program for transportation personnel; 13. Oversee the development and review of all home-to-school bus routes using the District transportation management software; 14. Participate on a variety of boards and committees; attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of logistics and student transportation; 15. Prepare Board agenda item and packets; 16. Attend meetings of the Board of Education and supply information and advice, as requested; 17. Perform other related duties as assigned.
License Requirements: Hold and maintain a valid California Driver’s License. Possession of an appropriate, valid commercial driver’s license and medical examination preferred.
