Current principles, practices, terminology, record keeping, and reporting requirements of school district payroll accounting.
PERS, STRS, Federal, State, and other laws and regulations pertaining to payroll.
Effective supervision and office organization practices.
Basic mathematics, including commonly used statistical applications.

Ability to:
Establish and communicate effectively with District employees and all other external representatives.
Understand and use various technology applications to support payroll and office functions.
Supervise, train, and evaluate support staff; audit payroll reports, functions, and activities; research, interpret and apply various laws, codes, contracts relating to payroll; and prepare reports using spreadsheet and/or other database applications.
Work under pressure and deadlines with constant interruptions.
Be flexible and be resourceful to District staff inquiries.
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Meet schedules and timelines.
Perform and explain complex mathematical calculations accurately and clearly.

Education/Experience/Required Certification:
Bachelor’s degree in business or related area, or combination of college coursework, supplementary advanced training in payroll, or related work (college or vocational school courses, seminars, and workshops by professional organizations or county offices).
Three years of school district payroll experience or five years of payroll experience in the private industry with a minimum of two years in a lead or payroll supervisory capacity.
