Under the general direction of the Chief Business Officer (CBO) and in support of the educational policies and programs of the district, the Director, Budget and Accounting performs professional accounting work in maintaining district records and creating reports in accordance with GAAP, directs the work of payroll and accounting technicians in implementing the day to day functions of the district budget, provides technical and procedural assistance to Business Office and site staff, and other job-related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other job-related duties may be assigned. Directs the maintenance of central accounting records of the District; prepares financial statements and budgetary reports; develops the Districts' "Budget Planning Workbook"; monitors and advises schools and departments regarding the budget process; in conjunction with Chief Business Official compiles and prepares the Districts' budget; provides management and the Board with periodic financial reports/updates and coordinates the review and processing of budget adjustments and documents; supervises, evaluates, trains and assigns the specific roles and tasks of accounts payable, accounts receivable, budget and payroll personnel; monitors the schools Associated Student Body record systems to verify that it is in keeping with established Board policies; prepares and submits Federal and State financial reports for various programs including the consolidated application; assures legal compliance in all aspects of the administration of the Districts' financial operations. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Knowledge of supervision and training principles. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BA degree in Business, preferably with an emphasis in accounting, or any equivalent combination of experience and training required; minimum four years of responsible fiscal accounting experience in a supervisory capacity desired. LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to prepare complete and concise verbal and written reports. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, percentages, and proportions. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra. REASONING ABILITY Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Any combination of training, education, and experience which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and abilities stated above and the ability to perform those duties. BA degree in Business, preferably with emphasis in accounting, or five (5) years experience in accounting with at least 2 years in school district/governmental fund accounting. Experience in income/expenditure budgets and personnel supervision, preferably in a public school district.
