Under the direction of the Superintendent or Designee, the Director of Security and School Safety will maintain a safe and secure environment for students, employees and visitors by helping to develop, establish and enforce safety and security policies, access control procedures, accident prevention efforts, support risk management efforts, fire, safety, emergency management, asset protection, parking control and traffic enforcement programs. The Director of Security and School Safety performs tasks in developing, implementing, and managing programs designed to effectively address security and school safety needs. Employee is responsible for coordinating a comprehensive school safety program, which includes working with local law enforcement agencies. Employee works extensively with sites, district, and community on all areas of school safety. Work also involves implementing training programs pertaining to matters of safety and security for site-based administrators. Will help to develop and monitor school safety areas within school improvement plans.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of increasing responsibility in law enforcement experience, with at least two years at a rank of sergeant or higher. Two years of law enforcement experience working with students or in a school district is preferred. Bilingual preferred.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field preferred. Master’s Degree preferred.
Licenses, Certifications, Preferred Training, Bonding and/or Testing Required: • CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), First Aid and AED training • Relevant advanced law enforcement or security training desired • California Peace Officer Standards and Training Supervisory and/or Management Certificate • POST- Approved Police Academy, or equivalent, FBI National Academy Program, Advance Police Management Program, National Fire Academy, Emergency Management Institute, Security, Training Programs, or other comparable training programs. • Tactical Response Training • Emergency Management Certificate • Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver’s license; have an acceptable driving record and qualify for insurability by the district’s recognized insurance carrier (DMV report prior to employment)
Lake Elsinore Unified School District (LEUSD) boundaries stretch over 144 square miles through Southwest Riverside County, serving families in Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, and Wildomar, and several unincorporated Riverside County communities, including Lakeland Village and Horsethief Canyon.
Our earliest schools began serving the valley during the 1880s, a few years before the City of Lake Elsinore's incorporation (1888). In 1988, Elsinore Union High School District unified with the Elsinore Elementary District (K-8) to form LEUSD. Over 140 years later, the legacy of education at LEUSD continues serving over 21 000 TK- 12th-grade students district at 25 schools, including alternative education programs.
