Budget Analyst at Novato Unified School District | EDJOIN
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, assists in the planning, organization, and development of the District’s annual budget. Performs a variety of specialized accounting duties to assist in the preparation, analysis, and maintenance of departmental and site budgets. Perform and maintain finance activities including forecasting, planning, budget development and financial State and federal reporting.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Prepare or participate in the preparation of budgets by compiling data for financial, cost, and budget analysis and forecasting.
Prepare SACS reporting for all District financial reporting periods
Maintain SACS account code structure for District
Assists with the preparation of the annual budget requests and maintains continuous budget accounts as required.
Develops annual budget development spreadsheets
Reports on anticipated or possible deficits, surpluses and general condition of the District.
Prepares all required associated reports and forms for submission to appropriate agencies; maintains a complete set of financial records for district categorical resources.
Set up and supervise financial record keeping systems; compile and prepare periodic financial statements, supporting schedules, and reports.
Maintain and review fixed asset and other special funds and periodically reconciles such funds to accounting records.
Develops and manages the internal auditing of school and department budgets
Assyre that expenditures are spent in accordance with program compliance and guidance
Analyze budget documentation to assure that expenditures are properly charged and do not exceed appropriations.
Provide daily monitoring and maintenance of the business components of position control
Computes and requests transfers between funds and other accounts
Monitors cash balance of district funds including preparation of cash flow projections and reports.
Maintains capital inventory.
Work directly with staff from other departments to resolve technical accounting issues and problems.
Assist with audits, year-end closing activities and fiscal reporting

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in accounting or closely related field and one year of recent experience as a professional full-time accountant or some combination of education, training, and experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
- TB clearance.
