Under direction of the Chief Facilities Operations Officer, the Assistant Director of Maintenance and Operations plan, organize, control and direct District maintenance and operations activities and related services; assist in coordinating flow of communications between administrators, personnel and outside organizations; train and supervise the performance of assigned personnel. The individual upholds the vision and values established by Dublin Unified School District.
Supervises the preparation of facility inspection reports, facility condition reports, long range maintenance plans, schedules and plans for maintenance work, specifications and warranty library.
Supervises facilities and the response and repair of emergencies: the safe efficient removal of all hazardous material; the management of assigned construction projects; and the development of emergency preparedness and safety program.
Supervises the preparation of all compliance approvals and permits, the assignment and scheduling of work orders, the preventative maintenance program, the purchasing of material and supplies, and the management of assigned construction projects.
Supervises the work order system and requisition system. Preparation of district, county, state and federal reports. Coordination of facilities used by outside agencies.
Assist with annual capital improvement budgets as assigned, staffing budgets, and organizational charts.
Oversees the custodial and grounds program in the district.
Acts as the safety manager for the district.
Prepares and manages the annual maintenance and operations budget.
Assists the human resources department in the determination of staffing needs as well as the recruitment, selection, evaluation, promotion, demotion or dismissal of maintenance and operations personnel.
Organizes and implements an orientation program on proper operation and maintenance of school facilities for departmental personnel.
Schedules work routines and coordinates vacation schedules for maintenance and operations departmental personnel.
Prepares and administers the budget for maintenance, grounds, and custodial supplies and equipment.
Directs the purchase of necessary equipment and supplies.
Organizes and implements programs of preventative and ongoing maintenance.
Directs the maintenance of all buildings and grounds as to cleanliness and safety, and conducts periodic inspection of all school facilities to ensure fire safety.
Directs the preparation of playing fields, grounds, and other necessary facilities for athletics and other school activities.
Reviews on a regular basis, all security/safety precautions and procedures, and recommends additions, changes, or reductions in service as appropriate.
Prepares cost estimates on repair work.
Prepares comprehensive monthly reports to administrators, staff, and Board of Trustees concerning the status and progress of various projects.
Attends Board of Trustees meetings on request and makes reports.
Assist facilities department with projects as assigned.
Leadership and management principles, practices and procedures
Federal, state, local, and Board of Education laws, policies, regulations and procedures relating to assigned areas
District’s Strategic and Facilities Plan, Board policy and District policy
EPA state and local environmental hazardous materials rules and regulations, including asbestos containing materials (ACM) methods and abatement procedures
Effective written and oral communication using correct English and grammar skills
General understanding of the local codes of the City of Dublin, Alameda County, the Uniform Building Code, State Education Code, Public Contract Code, State Department of Education State Allocation Board, State Department of Finance, Office of Regulatory Services, and Office of Local Assistance as they apply to the maintenance and operation process related to educational facilities
Planning, organizing, supervising and coordination needed for assigned programs (Facilities, Maintenance and Grounds, and future Transportation needs)
Computer software, hardware, and related technology
Provide leadership, direction and accountability for assigned programs
Direct complex programs of maintenance and operations
Provide effective and efficient oversight of District business operations to meet goals and objectives
Formulate strategies to meet district objectives, to turn strategies to guide and ensure success
Maintain current knowledge of applicable provisions of federal, state and District laws, rules and regulations
Interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures as it pertains to assigned programs

Supervise and evaluate the performance of all assigned staff

Working environment requires continuous sitting, reading, writing, and computer use; continuous hand-eye coordination, use of hands and fingers, and manipulation of large and small objects; frequent bending, twisting, reaching, stooping and stretching; frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 (ten) pounds; extensive walking, standing, and lifting objects weighing up to 50 (fifty) pounds; and requires the ability to hear at a close proximity and (up to five feet); clarity of vision at varying distances; and verbal and written communication in an articulate manner. The job is performed under some temperature extremes, some hazardous conditions, and in varying atmospheric conditions.
