Under the general direction of the Superintendent or designee, the Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation (MOT) plans, organizes, coordinates and supervises maintenance, custodial, grounds keeping, and transportation departments of the district. The Director (MOT) trains and supervises classified employees assigned to the maintenance and operation of schools in addition to those assigned to transportation department duties; ensures the ordering of all custodial, maintenance and transportation supplies and equipment; monitors the budgets for the maintenance, operations and transportation departments; oversees construction, reconstruction and modernization projects, and funding coordination; supervises the day-to-day operation of the District's pupil transportation program, including any contracted services with other neighboring school districts; ensures strict compliance with all applicable laws governing pupil transportation and vehicle repair; and assists in the development of long-range plans for MOT and does related work as required.
Maintenance and Operations:
• Supervises the maintenance and upkeep of all buildings and grounds. • Plans and supervises the painting, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work necessary for maintenance. • Plans, directs and supervises necessary in-service training of maintenance and custodial personnel. • Responsible for the development and implementation of a preventive maintenance program. • Directs and coordinates District facilities management, including maintenance and operations, modernization and construction. • Monitors the departmental budget for the maintenance, grounds and custodial units. • Supervise the disposal of all surplus equipment and supplies for the District and is responsible for the disposal of hazardous waste and toxic materials. • Provide technical information on maintenance and operations and studies/evaluates methods and procedures used in performing maintenance and operation duties.
• Is responsible for the operation of the District pupil transportation program, including the supervision of school bus driver/utility workers, van driver/utility workers, school bus driver instructors, mechanics and clerical personnel. • Ensures the timely preparation of routes and schedules for school bus operation in a manner as to ensure maximum safety and cost effectiveness. • Monitors the transportation department budget. • Ensures a comprehensive training program is developed, maintained and carried out for department staff, including the training of bus and van drivers. • Develops routes and constructs schedules for all transportation services, re ponsible for service changes (i.e. notifies staff and media in event of schedule chanae due to weather). • Modifies schedules to support special programs, activities and changes in school calendars and reviews all schedules to guarantee compliance with existing policies while providing opportunities for economies and consolidation.• Responsible for home-to-school transportation and vehicle repair. • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of: Statutes, regulations and practices related to school maintenance, operations, and transportation. Planning, organization and direction of the maintenance and repair activities of facilities; construction, engineering, architecture and maintenance management; building codes and other applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies and procedures; custodial practices and procedures; budget preparation and control.
Ability to: Work collaboratively with Administration, other MOT supervisors, and the public. Involve MOT employees in decision making where appropriate. Motivate employees to maintain excellence in service and productivity. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Maintain positive relations with staff and public. Maintain composure and professional demeanor under all circumstances.
High School Diploma or equivalent is required; Five (5) years of successful experience in the maintenance, grounds, construction and/or transportation fields; (3) Three years of Supervisorial experience. Valid California Driver’s License. Upon hire must clear fingerprint scan, submit proof of negative TB and pass pre-employment physical.
