Los Angeles Unified is currently recruiting for a Director of Food Services.
The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is seeking a highly qualified individual to join our leadership team in the capacity of Director of Food Services.
Reporting directly to the District’s Business Manager; the Director of Food Services will assist the District by directing the activities of the Food Services Division to ensure that LAUSD provides a first-class food services program for our 1,000+ schools and 600,000+ students of Los Angeles. This position is housed in the downtown Los Angeles, central LAUSD, office at 333 South Beaudry Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90017.
The ideal candidate for our Director of Food Services will be an effective and collaborative executive leader with a strong food services business operations background. He/she will have a proven track record of leading and directing enterprise-wide food services and operations of large organizations, preferably within a public-school system, and is both budget savvy and well versed in laws, rules, and legal interpretations related to food industry operations. This individual will have a strong financial background with a solid understanding of budget implications in relations to strategic decisions and financial forecasting. He/she will have logistics management experience to effectively oversee large, complex, food services operations.
This person will have a good understanding of the current factors and trends that impact public education and will be able to seek solutions and strategic opportunities within the current organizational and fiscal environment to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of LAUSD’s food services and operations. The ideal candidate will also have significant experience in evaluating and forecasting operational needs to allow for long-range plans to be aligned with strategic goals.
Further, the ideal candidate is an organizationally astute and diplomatic leader who takes into account the needs of multiple stakeholders through collaboration, reengineering, and fiscal responsibility and handles challenging situations with diplomacy and integrity. This individual will be results oriented, have collaborative work style and will be able to effectively manage and motivate individuals and staff directly and indirectly to achieve established goals for successful outcomes.
Education: Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree* preferably in restaurant management, dietetics, nutrition, business administration, or a related field.
Experience**: Five (5) years of executive or management experience with direct administrative authority over a multi-unit food services operation serving at least 15,000 meals a day.

Special: A valid California Driver License and use of an automobile.
